Mooching about flea markets, antique shops, charity shops and jumble sales are my guilty pleasure. I love that feeling of walking into a flea market or junk shop, and not knowing what treasures you may find. Ebay is also my friend.
The whole recycling of other people’s’ discarded belongings sits well with me – it’s more eco than buying new, I love things that look more rustic rather than sparkly new and I think it means you get less exposure to chemicals that comes with buying new stuff that’s been treated with varnishes, fire retardants etc.
The “antiques quarter” in Bridport was my idea of heaven.
There was warehouse, after warehouse filled to the brim with antiques, junk and vintage items. So many beautiful bits to look at – and we came away with a few bits for the house. The car was rammed full!
The highlight of the day though was visiting the little cafe hidden amongst the “antiques quarter” – a tiny place that we were told has won awards for it’s food – very very rustic, almost hippy-esk.
